POSITION SUMMARY
Nurse Manager: Lead and organize delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for health practices in a non-hospital setting. Use professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. Write and implement of Policies and Procedures. Function as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities. Guide, develop, and support staff to execute policy and procedures accurately and consistently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Plan, develop, update, and implement health policies and procedures as needed.
2. Ensure compliance with regulated procedures and systems of storing, handling, and monitoring the taking of medications
3. Act as the staff liaison on all medication issues with The Salvation Army, Haven management, and all relevant Veterans Administration Health Center departments.
4. Regularly review safety and accuracy of all medications taken by clients in a non-hospital setting
5. Participate in daily counts of scheduled and controlled substances
6. Provide hands on service to clients in a non-hospital setting
7. Communicate regularly with the Director of Operations regarding any changes or challenges to procedures
8. Discuss professional and program development in coordination with the Director of Operations; develop and implement on-going medication and health training for new staff members
9. Understand, maintain, and improve procedures for the handling of medications (including scheduled and controlled substances)
10. Accurately assess the biological and psychosocial needs of each resident's medications in relation to their health needs
11. Provide support, encouragement, and crisis intervention as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Driving Test and clean MVR check (if applicable).
2. If working in vicinity of children a criminal background check is required with certification for Protect the Mission policies and procedures.
3. Registered Nurse with BS in human services, psychology, nursing, or related field
4. 2 years experience or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) with 3 years' experience in residential care or hospital care
5. Must be able to work in a stressful environment with multiple priorities
6. Must accept risk of exposure to communicable diseases and occasional combativeness from clients
7. Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification and pass health screening within the first 90 days of employment
8. Must receive TB testing two times per year
9. Must have good audio and visual perception to assist residents in emergency situations
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of, and experience working with, sub-populations of the homeless, substance abusers, and the mentally ill a definite plus
2. Ability to work in a multi-cultural multi-service delivery environment
3. Must have written and verbal communication skills appropriate for responsibilities
4. Ability to work as part of a leadership team with Executive Director and other Directors of the Haven programs
5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access a definite plus
6. Veteran status or experience working with veterans valuable
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Ability to walk between buildings up to 500 yards apart and climb two flights of stairs.
2. Ability to, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
3. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
4. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.
5. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
6. Must have full range of motion.
