Full-time Registered Nurse: CICU 0.9 FTE day/night rotation (CICU/PICU flex) (Seattle, WA)

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 13 bed unit that is a quaternary care referral center for 4 states that cares for cardiac patients from newborns up to young adults. The PICU also has an additional 13 beds. The CICU patients have complex congenital defects requiring surgery, cardiology and/or cardiac transplant care. Specialized care provided in the CICU includes ECMO/ECLS, Berlin Heart, continuous renal replacement therapy, nitric oxide, ventricular assist devices, open chest procedures and temporary pacemakers.
The CICU has an all RN staff that work closely with respiratory therapists, nutritionists, social workers, pharmacists and physicians to care for these critically ill children. The physical environment is made of mostly single rooms with a parent space (including a place to sleep in the room) that allows families to be present and partner in the care of their child.

As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by Washington State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children’s policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team.
May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, etc.., as defined by Washington State Nursing Commission’s applicable WAC. Assists in meeting Seattle Children’s strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e. Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc.Required: – 1 year of current RN experience working in a PICU, CICU or NICU setting – Current Washington State RN License. – Graduate of an accredited school of nursing – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). – Occasional overtime may be required

  • Please note: This is actually a PICU/CICU flex position and will require the RN to work in both areas.
    Preferred:
    - Current CICU experience preferred
    - Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
    - CCRN specialty certification
