Nurse Practitioner -- Corrections (Oklahoma )

Position Description:
The Nurse Practitioner for Corrections collaboratively works with a multidisciplinary health care team to
ensure the delivery of patient care and achieving determined outcomes under the clinical direction of
the Chief Medical Officer and administrative direction of the Director of Medical and Forensic Services.
Duties also include identifying and evaluating general, and mental health issues, development of
medication regimens and treatment plans for patients to include independently prescribing
pharmacologic and psychopharmacologic drugs authorized by RSA 326â€B:10A.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
ï‚· Functions as the primary clinician/practitioner in the assessment of patient care and needs,
diagnosis, and the implementation of a treatment plan
ï‚· Understands and applies principles of healthcare at an advanced level; functions as a resource
to other health care team members
ï‚· Manages the physical and psychosocial health status of patients
ï‚· Analyzes multiple sources of data, identifying alternative possibilities as to the nature of a health
care problem; implements and evaluates appropriate treatment
ï‚· Makes independent decisions in solving complex client care problems
ï‚· Diagnoses, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; prescribes, administers and
dispenses therapeutic measures, including legend drugs, medical devices and controlled
substances within the scope of Registered Nurse Practitioner practice on meeting requirements
established by the board
ï‚· Performs additional acts that require education and training as prescribed by the board and that
are recognized by the nursing profession as proper to be performed by a nurse practitioner
ï‚· Assists medical providers as needed; assesses chronic, acute, and emergency health care needs
of patients with respective documentation and provide therapeutic interventions necessary to
achieve optimum patient outcomes
ï‚· Collaborates in the hiring and evaluation process of team members
ï‚· Assumes administrative and/or clinical responsibilities in developing and approving policies for
patient care areas
ï‚· Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
ï‚· Current Nurse Practitioners license with the applicable state
ï‚· Current DEA certification
ï‚· Five (5) years professional nursing experience and clinical competency in clinical nursing
ï‚· Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Corrections preferred
ï‚· Familiarity with OSHA regulations related to universal precautions and hazardous materials
ï‚· Must possess an understanding of safety and security measures of a correctional environment
ï‚· Knowledge of communicable disease principles and understanding of Center for Disease Control
(CDC) and Occupational Safety Health Association (OSHA)
ï‚· Ability to work with multiple disciplines and work cooperatively with correctional officers
ï‚· Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including,
but not limited to, supervisors, coâ€workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency
in the English language may be required
ï‚· Computer proficiency required
