Community Access, Inc. (CA) is a progressive not-for-profit organization that for the last 37 years has helped thousands of people diagnosed with psychiatric disabilities to make the transition from hospitals and shelters to independent living. Our primary mission is to identify needs and create solutions for homeless people with psychiatric disabilities. Our programs include over 950 units of supportive housing in three boroughs, the Howie T. Harp Peer Advocacy Center, East Village Access--a PROS-licensed training program, and the Art Collective.
We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of:
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Mental Health Nurse Practitioner)
at East Village Access,
242 East 2nd Street, in Manhattan
Position is part-time, 5-15 hours per week; salary is commensurate with experience -- salary requirements and history must be included in cover letter to be considered for position.
Program Overview
The purpose of this PROS (Personalized Recovery Oriented Services) program is to assist individuals recovering from the mental illness through the coordination of rehabilitation and support services that are participant focused and goal oriented.
Position Overview
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for diagnosis, prescribing medication and monitoring side effects, and facilitating the recovery process of program participants. Some of the essential job functions include: completing psychiatric assessments within a month of admission and at least every 6 months thereafter; providing medication management services; evaluating available clinical data pertaining to physical status and performing screenings and referrals for conditions needing consultation from other medical providers, including primary care providers and specialists as indicated, and applying person-centered principles and recovery oriented approach to treatment.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates must hold a current, active RN license in NY and also hold a master's degree from an adult psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). A minimum of 500 faculty supervised clinical hours must have been included in the nurse practitioner program. The ideal candidate will hold the PMHNP-BC credentials, and be Board certified as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and have a Medicare provider number. The candidate must have a commitment to recovery-oriented and holistic practice; a positive approach to problem solving; and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
