Occupational Therapist PRN (Kansas City, MO)

JOB SUMMARY
Provides evaluation and treatments to referred patients including neurological impairment and upper extremity dysfunction.
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
•Evaluates with appropriate objective tests and provides appropriate treatment to referred patients, including stroke patients.
•Performs heat modalities including paraffin bath; ultrasound/moist hot packs to the UE; electrical stimulation for muscular re-education; self care tasks (therapeutic bathing/dressing); homemaking; leisure activities and community re-entry; energy conservation/work simplification; neuromuscular re-education techniques including NDT, PNF and constraint movement induced therapy to promote function/coordination/strength; ROM and strengthening exercises; standardized evaluations including Kohlman Evaluation of Living Skills, the Vi Baba (visual perceptual assessment), and Motor Free Visual Perception Test-Revised.
•Consults with physicians when needed regarding patients' progress or revision in treatment.
•Schedules patients.
•Maintains timely, accurate and complete patient records, including evaluations, discharge summary, progress notes and record of charges.
•Counsels caregivers (nursing, family) on patient needs and goals for treatment
•Initiates communication with others, gives direct feedback and encourages peers to do the same. Monitors patient load in assigned area and requests assistance from peers as needed or offers assistance to peers as available in inpatient and outpatient areas.
•Practices within the state of Missouri's Occupational Therapy Practice Act.
•Attends required meetings and in-services. Increases knowledge base by attending seminars and continuing education classes as approved.
•Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate area and follows up with repair person as needed.
•Maintains the inventory of occupational therapy supplies and assists with ordering supplies.
•Demonstrates an understanding of the current reimbursement systems, their standards and documentation procedures. Remains aware of cost factors.
•Trains other staff and provides education periodically as directed by Director.
•Rotates through weekend shifts to provide adequate coverage.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/TRAINING
•Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy
•Other: 4 hours of continuing education related to stroke patients every 2 years
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (with minimum requirements indicated as appropriate)
•1 year Occupational Therapist experience is preferred
CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES
•Licensed Occupational Therapist in State of Missouri
•Registration with National AOTCB preferred
