JOB SUMMARY
Provides evaluations and treatments to referred patients including but not limited to musculoskeletal dysfunction, pain and neurological impairment. Demonstrates competence with certain patient populations, including stroke patients.
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
•Demonstrates technical and professional competence in all procedures.
•Age group(s) of patients served in this job
•Demonstrates competence to evaluate and treat all demographics, including stroke patients.
•Evaluates referred patients for treatment using appropriate objective tests.
•Consults with physicians when needed, regarding patient plan of care, patient progress, and revision of treatment plans.
•Prepares patient and explains prescribed treatment to patient prior to performing treatment.
•Performs wound care; heat modalities including ultrasound and moist packs, electrical stimulation, cryotherapy, massage and mobilization techniques for pain relief; gait and transfer training, neuromuscular re-education; vestibular rehab, balance and coordination training, and general strengthening/flexibility exercises in an educated and competent manner.
•Maintains accurate, timely and complete records of patients receiving treatment, including evaluations, discharge summary, treatment notes, progress notes, record of charges, etc.
•Educates patients/family/caregivers on follow-up home care needs and exercises and assists in obtaining needed equipment.
•Refers patients to other health care providers and community resources when appropriate.
•Attends all required meetings and in-services. Increases knowledge base by attending seminars and continuing education classes as required for licensure.
•Practices within the Missouri Physical Therapy Practice Act and the American Physical Therapy Association's Standards of Practice for Physical Therapy and the Code of Ethics.
•Initiates communication with others, gives direct feedback and encourages peers to do the same.
•Trains other physical therapy staff as directed. Periodically provides education and in-services to hospital staff.
•Demonstrates an understanding of the current reimbursement systems, their standards, and documentation procedures.
•Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate area and follows-up with repair person as needed.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
•Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy
•4 hours of continuing education related to stroke patients every 2 years
CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES
•Registered Physical Therapist in the State of Missouri

Compensation: $39.70 /Hour
