JOB SUMMARY
The Clinician 2 has authority, responsibility, and accountability as follows:
•Plan of Care/Clinical Pathways: Develops an individualized plan of care for assigned patients. Coordinates care for individual patients on a day to day basis.
•Education: Accountable for teaching patients new information. Accountable for maintaining professional competencies.
•Communication: Is accountable for effective communication with patients/family, care team members and physicians regarding the patient's progress on the plan of care and response to treatment.
•Staff Development: Participates in the orientation of new employees. Oversees care assigned to paraprofessionals on the patient care team. Works in partnership with members of the team. Gives input into peer evaluations.
•Quality: Implements plan of care/Clinical Pathways assuring progression toward quality outcomes.
•Safety: Provides and supports a safe patient care environment.
•Collaboration: Consults with physician and team members regarding changes in patient's condition and revises the plan of care utilizing input of team members. Supports roles of all coworkers.
•Practice: Operates within the scope of their practice as outlined by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
DEPARTMENT/UNIT SPECIFIC PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Demonstrates competence in surgical services specialty assessment of identifying normal level of function versus alterations from normal parameters.
•Utilizes standards of surgical services specialty nursing practice and the nursing process in daily practice.
•Performs nursing actions in the operating room that demonstrate accountability.
•Performs preoperative patient assessment and documents nursing diagnoses.
•Establishes plan of care that delineates intraoperative nursing interventions and evaluations.
•Performs surgical incision site preparation according to recommended practices for perioperative nursing.
•Maintains accurate intraoperative patient care record of events in the operating room as well as additional documentation required (charges, implant records, laser logs, etc.).
•Administers drugs, solutions and medication as ordered intraoperatively.
•Monitors patient physiologic and psychologic status during surgery as indicated.
•Demonstrates knowledge of methods of sterilization and operation of autoclaves and steris used in the operating room.
•Demonstrates basic knowledge of function of surgical equipment, including lasers, microscopes, video and recording equipment.
•Demonstrates basic knowledge of use and care of surgical instrumentation.
•Initiates and updates surgeons' preference cards.
•Works on call for emergency, weekday, weekend, holiday unit coverage as outlined per full-time, part-time and PRN guidelines.
•Counts sponges, sharps and instruments according to policy.
•Prepares and check case cart for each surgical case utilizing physician preference card to determine need and availability of supplies, instrumentation and equipment.
EDUCATION/TRAINING (or equivalent)
•Associate Degree/Diploma in Nursing
•Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred
•Other: 10 CEUs per year upon hire
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS (with minimum requirements indicated as appropriate)
•1 year as Clinician 1 or equivalent.
•Experience in critical care setting preferred.
•Perioperative nursing experience preferred.
•Ability to be on call and respond to emergency call within 30 minutes.
•Ability to deal with life threatening conditions.
•Knowledge of function, operation and care of surgical equipment such as lasers, microscopes, video and recording equipment, and surgical instrumentation.
•Close teamwork.
CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES
•Current licensure as R.N. in State of Missouri
•Current BLS within 3 months of hire

Compensation: $22.30 - $36.68 /Hour
