Summary of Position
Provide general and preventative care, conduct check-ups, treat illnesses, prescribe medication and provide referrals as necessary for staff and youth of Covenant House Alaska.
Essential Functions
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Covenant House Mission, philosophy, history and tradition(s) and the underlying values upon which the Agency is founded to the staff, youth and the community we serve
• Understand and comply with all Agency policies and procedures.
• Maintain a high level of ethical standards.
• Ensure the safety of youth seen by CHA at all times.
• Assess the health of youth, diagnose, and treat appropriately.
• Counsel and educate youth and staff on health care issues.
• Coordinate and direct referrals to other health care providers.
• Develop annual plan for health education for residents and staff
• Design and conduct educational programs and workshops on health care.
• Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures.
• Maintain accurate health care and program records.
• Act as a member of the Program Management Team.
• Act as a consultant to program Case Managers and the Case Review Team.
• Ability to work independently, using good judgment, and common sense
• Keep supervisor fully informed at all times
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Alaska licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Minimum Experience
Two years experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner or five years of experience in primary care nursing.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required
• Ability to provide quality health education to both youth and staff.
• Extensive knowledge of adolescent development.
• Excellent oral and written, communication skills including organizational skills.
• Good judgment and common sense
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to work independently
• Good customer service skills
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Possess a current state of Alaska Driving License
• Have clean driving record
• Pass federal, state and local background investigation
• Experience in Psychiatric nursing a plus
• Experience with billing and electronic medical record keeping helpful Location: Covenant House Alaska
