Seasonal position at the West End House Girls Camp
Nonresidential — Camp Nurse
The West End House Girls Camp is a new camp facility in East Parsonsfield, Maine that provides a small number of urban girls with an overnight camp experience. Our mission is to positively influence the lives of a diverse community of girls by providing them with the skills, support, and opportunities needed to grow into empowered, successful and responsible women. We are looking for energetic and mature staff members to help us create and implement innovative camp activities and experiences to meet the varied needs of urban girls. Being only in our second year, this is an exciting and unique opportunity to help shape the growth of a new and developing camp as well as to positively affect the lives of amazing young girls..
Job Purpose:
The camp “nurse” will be expected to be on site daily to oversee medical needs of campers and staff.
Specific Duties:
• To ensure the safety and physical health and well-being of all members of camp.
• To administer medication to campers, treat injuries and illnesses, and maintain clear health and medication records
• To run themed question and answer programs regarding health and healthy living
• To get yourself to and from camp in a timely manner on a daily basis
• There are no overnight responsibilities with this position
Skills/Qualifications:
• The applicant must meet one of the following requirements:
o Physician
o Physician Assistant
o Registered Nurse
o Licensed Practical Nurse
• Must be at least 21 years of age by June 30th, 2012
• Available daily, throughout the duration of camp (Monday, June 25th — Sunday, August 19th), excluding assigned days off
• Ability to positively interact with youth and adults of all ages
• Possess sound judgment, integrity, and enjoys working with young people
• 3 years+ of college experience preferred
• Previous work with urban youth preferred
• Previous camp experienced preferred
• Comfort with the outdoors *EOE
