Nurse (RN) - Mobile Treatment Team (Columbia, MD)

DESCRIPTION
This is a licensed professional position offered by Way Station, Inc. requiring general and specific knowledge of mental health and psychiatric nursing. This is a position that requires knowledge of Way Station's bio-psychosocial and interdisciplinary model of service delivery. Primary responsibility is delivery of nursing services to Mobile Treatment clients. This is an hourly position, 20 hours per week, flexible schedule. The Nurse is expected, through training and experience, to exercise independent judgment with the supervision of the Mobile Treatment Program Manager.
Position Requirements: Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
• Knowledge of principles, philosophies and strategies of nursing as they apply to assisting persons with mental illness.
• Knowledge of psychotropic medications, indications, side effects, therapeutic effects, and drug interactions.
• Administer and monitor medication.
• Knowledge and experience with skills required for clinical assessment and bio-psychosocial therapies appropriate for persons with serious mental illness.
• Knowledge of current theories of contributing factors in and effects of mental illness.
• Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation philosophy and concepts for persons with disabilities.
• Establish and maintain trust relationships with clients that reflect boundaries recognized as the community standard of care and professional ethical behavior.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Work with others as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Effectively assess the functional capabilities mental status and service needs of ACT clients and referrals and employ appropriate intervention in a wide range of clinical situations.
• Perform general and specific somatic health assessments, recognize symptoms indicative of disease, and plan and implement appropriate intervention.
• Establish positive peer relationships and to coordinate effectively with rehabilitation services, understanding and embracing the full range of Way Station service delivery system.
• Willingness and ability to interface effectively with families and advocates of clients and potential clients.
DUTIES
• Support and monitor compliance of the individual's self-administration of prescribed medication, including checking of prescription labels and storage. Administer injectable medication as needed.
• Provide education regarding medications to clients, family/significant other(s).
• Provide training in communicable disease prevention as needed.
• Conduct physical health assessments and follow-up on all ACT clients.
• Monitor/document status of TB testing and physical health exams as needed.
• Assist with case management as needed.
• Provide consultation with treatment planning.
• Liaison and advocate with community agencies and somatic health providers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Position Requirements: Education and Experience
• Possession of a bachelor's degree in nursing with relevant work experience which uniquely qualifies the individual for the job. Possession of a valid license to practice nursing in the state of Maryland.
• Two years positively referenced relevant work experience.
• Valid driver's license or alternative transportation plan.
