We have the following opportunity available: • Clinical Nurse Specialist/RN – Heart & Vascular Center (full-time day hours) *80 hrs/pp, day shift, 7:00am-3:30pm with some coverage into evening shifts for education, presentations, etc. – The Clinical Nurse Specialist is a Registered Nurse whose main functions are to facilitate and coordinate the administration of quality patient care to patients of all ages and to enhance professional and independent functioning of the nurses in the department. – The Clinical Nurse Specialist functions autonomously and in collaboration with health care providers as a practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher and manager. The CNS practice is consistently targeted toward achieving quality, cost-effective outcomes through patient/client care, by influencing the practice of other nurses and nursing personnel and influencing the health care organization to support nursing practice. The advanced practice level brings the independent nursing practice of autonomy into this role. This position supports the concepts and philosophies of nursing. Implements and abides by Customer Service Standards. – Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota required. – Masters Degree in Nursing with formal training as a clinical nurse specialist in the same specialty area of practice in which they are certified. – Minimum of three years of CNS experience, preferably in cardiac. – Minimum of 3 years of recent ICU or CCU experience. – Familiar with inpatient, outpatient, procedural, and clinic operations. Experience with program development, policy and procedure. Leadership experience. Demonstrates autonomy and independence. Demonstrates critical thinking. – Certified as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in area of specialty. – Written agreement (prescribing agreement) with a Minnesota physician based on standards established by the Minnesota Nurses Association and the Minnesota Medical Association in a Memorandum of Understanding that defines the delegated responsibilities related to the prescription of drugs and therapeutic devices. – Completion of no less than 30 hours of formal study from a college, university health care institution, which included the following instruction in health assessment, medication classifications, indications, dosages, contraindications, and side effects; supervised practice; and competence evaluation, including evidence of the application of knowledge pertaining to prescribing for and therapeutic management of the clinical type of patients in the certified clinical nurse specialist’s practice.
